2024 Mid-Year Bujo Memory Journal Flip Through & Tips

2024 Mid-Year Bujo Memory Journal Flip Through & Tips

Can you believe we are already over halfway through 2024?!? I certainly can’t. The years go by faster and faster. I’ve been memory journaling since 2021 and decided to switch things up this year. My three other journals were in a dated planner from Ink+Volt, but I never used their built-in reflection pages and there were never extra pages each month for me to add additional pictures. So this year I used a blank A5 journal from Archer & Olive to bujo a memory journal.

Bujo, short for bullet journal, was always intimidating and I previously avoided this style. It meant I’d have to think through weekly and monthly layouts, draw them on every single page, and keep count of my pages to make sure everything fit into one notebook. This year I decided to dive right into the bujo approach and see how it goes. Halway through the year and I LOVE how it’s turning out! Even though the monthly wrap up spreads take awhile to create it’s worth it to have that extra space for tracking topics and picture overflow. I love not having wasted pages like I found myself having when I used a dated planner. The bujo style takes a lot longer to create, but it’s a labor of love.

Check out the flip through of my bujo memory journal and let me know what you think!

Every year I learn new journaling techniques. Here are some tips that I found useful and will continue to use in future memory journals. Hopefully these tips inspire you to start a journal or add a new technique to your existing journals.

Collect stickers of the places you’ve been to fill inside your front and back covers (or wherever). Sticker collages are always fun to look through and it’s a real quick time capsule of places you’ve been or artists you have supported. Bonus: They are an affordable, compact souvenir, too!

Keep tickets or playing cards to paste into your journal. Here I kept the parking ticket from the Expo we went to and pasted in a Beetlejuice playing card I bought while there.

Cut up brochures, maps, and wristbands from events you go to. After going to a Comic Con I cut up and made a collage from the map, brochure, and my ticket bracelet.

Sometimes when you order something it comes wrapped in tissue paper. If I like the paper I’ve been cutting it down to use in my memory journal. This one is from a MeowWolf order.

Create a monthly wrap up section to track movies and shows you watched. Give the media you finished a rating and a short write up.

The second spread of all my monthly wrap ups is for tracking books read, game scores, new recipes tried, and any extra pictures I want to include. Again add some ratings and write ups. I love doodling and also started doodling the ingredients for each recipe.

Not a tip, just a chunky journal appreciation pic 🙂

When I fall behind on memory journaling or feel overwhelmed I remind myself that in 20 years I’ll be so glad I did this. It’s a great way to flip back through the years and remember happy memories I might have forgotten. I page through my journals from just a couple years ago and always have that moment of , “Oh yeah we did do that.”

If you are thinking about starting a memory journal of your own or just looking for some fresh inspo I hope you found that here! If you have any questions or new techniques you think I’d like please share in the comments below.

Happy journaling,

Laura
