Favorite Memory: Watching all the fireworks from the rooftop.
When I think about the Fourth of July the first things I think are: fireworks, cookouts with cheeseburgers on the grill and fruit salads made entirely of berries, family and friends. Growing up we would celebrate the Fourth of July in Indiana at the family cottage. That was lots of fun. There were A LOT of bottle rockets shot off, which was the “cool” thing to do. As we got older my parents sold the cottage and the Fourth of July has transitioned from spending time with family in Indiana to hanging out with friends in Chicago. One of my friend’s family throws a bit party in the suburbs. There is great food, conversation, and I’ve started making a desert each year to contribute to the massive amounts of delicious foods. In 2017 my boyfriend and I brought a fruit and candy tray that was shaped like the American flag (photo below). I don’t know what I would do without Pinterst. This year we didn’t stay in the suburbs for the park district fireworks display. Instead we headed back up to the city to beat the crazies on the road and mosquitos in the park. Once we got in we could hear all the fireworks going off and decided to head up to the roof to see if we could catch any. It was so cool being able to see fireworks no matter where you turned. Every neighborhood seemed to have their own display. Every direction you looked there were constantly big beautiful showers of sparks. I’m hoping to do the same this year.
