Top 5 Surprising Things I Found
I had certain expectations for what I would find on my mini road trip through the Illinois portion of Route 66, but some things I found were surprising:
#5 Interstate 55 (Stevenson Expressway) is a part of historic Route 66

#4 Paul Bunyan and Gemini Giant were created from the same mold!
Atlanta, IL: Paul Bunyan holding a hot dog, because why not Wilmington, IL: Gemini Giant at the Launching Pad
#3 Number of people from around the world that visited the Route 66 shop in Atlanta, IL

#2 Cozy library in Atlanta, IL
Clock tower and library 100+ year old mill stones Library entrance Cozy library vibes
#1 The calming feel of being in a small town
Getting some lunch at Palms Grille (don’t forget the pie!) Chubby’s Route 66! Teeny tiny police station
Have you traveled this portion of Route 66? If so, I’d love to know what things you found surprising in the comments below. I’m hoping one day I’ll be able to travel the whole Route 66.
Happy travels,
Laura
